“Vente A Cenar”

Digital Drawing, December 2025

This drawing is an adaptation of the song “Vente A Cenar” by Nico Play. The song tells a story of a young man who recalls a memory with his family getting ready for dinner. It transitions into discussing his mother’s death and the family’s transition in restarting their life.

In my artwork, I wanted to visualize the imagery I associated with the song and the aftermath of the mother’s death. The image features a Mexican family getting ready for dinner while the mother’s spirit is there to comfort them.

“Indirect Self Portrait”

Pencil on Paper, December 2024

This art-piece is an indirect self portrait of the things that characterize my life. There are four seperate drawings on cut-colored paper meant to represent “Papel Picado”. “Papel Picado” is a paper decoration used in Mexico which is apart of my heritage that I incredibly value. Each sheet represents things I care about in my life: childhood, photography, creativity, and nature.

“Untitled”

Flaming Hot Cheetos and Soft Pastel on Paper, March 2026

This art piece discusses the early 2026 situation with the cartel in Mexico, where cars were burned, and civilians were negatively affected. I felt especially passionate about this subject because I have family in Mexico, and I’ve come to learn more about how the cartel is impacting the Mexican Community. Because of this, I wanted to portray a scene that discusses the impact it has on the civilians. The image features a burning car and a mother & daughter being uncomfortable with the situation around them. The shadow figure featured is up to the interpretation of the viewer; it could be the outside world observing situations and not helping, the American Government being against Mexican individuals, or just you, the viewer.

“Art-Making System”

Mixed Media on Paper, February 2026

I created this for a class assignment related to systems. While making it, I was initially stuck on it and became inspired by my palette paint that I had developed over the course of a year. It reminded me of the system of art-making and I broke it apart into one of the pieces of paper. I also incorporated other aspects of my headspace with art and creation: the charcoal piece represents starting your art piece, the center is my process of doodling and letting free while also showing some of my confusion with my definition of a system. The bottom represents my headspace regarding art block, my career, and the future and impact of art.
